Scott Hawkins Visits Juneau, Meets with Legislative Leaders

(JUNEAU, AK) – Scott Hawkins today visited Juneau, appearing on Pete Carran’s show on KINY and visiting with legislative leaders about the importance of holding the line on the state operating budget.

“Today’s visit to Juneau builds on our growing momentum in Southeast Alaska,” stated Hawkins.  “Southeast Alaska will play a pivotal role in the Republican gubernatorial primary.  I intend to earn and win the support of Alaska Republicans.  Today marked my 5th visit to Southeast Alaska since announcing my intent to run for Governor,” said Hawkins.

Hawkins demonstrated his commitment to Southeast Alaska, telling Carran he unequivocally supports keeping Juneau as Alaska’s Capitol and will prioritize the building of the Juneau access road and the access road to the Ketchikan airport.

During his interview with Carran and his meeting with GOP legislative leaders, Hawkins talked about his unique background as a businessman and economist and his commitment to bringing positive change to Juneau.  “I will use conservative grit to shake up the status quo in Juneau,” declared Hawkins.  “Our current Governor is unwilling to make the change we need to fix our budget.  Alaska government spends more per person than any state in the nation.  Reining in spending and protecting Alaska families from a statewide income tax will take leadership, discipline, and fresh perspective.”

“Likewise, we must prioritize government’s focus.  Governor Walker’s Senate Bill 91 has unleashed a crime spree in Alaska.  This is a case of misplaced priorities.  Protecting Alaska families should be job one for government, not a mere afterthought,” concluded Hawkins.
